Andrew Garfield says he’s open to playing Spider-Man again, but only if the story is something truly unusual.
The actor spoke about this at Middle East Film & Comic Con, saying any new Spider-Man project would need to be as creative and offbeat as the animated Spider-Verse movies.
“It would have to be very weird,” Garfield said. “Something unique, surprising, and free—like the Spider-Verse movies.”
Garfield played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), and made a popular return in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). That film earned nearly $2 billion at the global box office and featured Garfield teaming up with Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire.
Garfield has spoken before about his love for the character. In an interview with Esquire, he said he felt unfinished after his second Spider-Man film. He said he would return only if the story adds something meaningful and different to the superhero world.
“I’d 100% come back if it’s the right thing,” Garfield said. “If it’s a great concept that hasn’t been done before—something unique and fun.”
As for rumors that he’ll be in Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland, Garfield says they aren’t true. But he admits fans might not believe him.
“I’m gonna disappoint you,” he told GQ UK. “Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”
Tom Holland’s next film as Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is set to release on July 31, 2026. Whether Garfield swings back into action remains to be seen.
