Drake Reveals He Was Left on Read by Justin Bieber Over Collaboration

Drake is calling out fellow Canadian artist Justin Bieber after making a play for a collaboration, only to be left on read.

On Sunday, April 6, Bieber took to Instagram, telling his nearly 300 million followers: “Dm me if u wanna make music together.” Drake quickly commented, revealing that he had already reached out to Bieber through direct message but never received a response. He wrote: “I DM’d but no reply.”

As of now, Bieber has not responded to Drake’s comment, but his post sparked a flood of collaboration requests from other major artists. Big Sean, who worked with Bieber on the 2012 hit “As Long As You Love Me,” commented, urging Bieber to “Check Dm’s.” Kehlani also joined in, writing: “Whewwhewwww,” while Jaden Smith, a longtime friend of Bieber, added: “Check your DMs gang.”

Rising country star Bailey Zimmerman even chimed in with: “WE NEED COUNTRY JB,” hinting at the possibility of a country collaboration with Bieber.

This public exchange follows an interesting history of collaborations between Drake and Bieber. Last year, producer Hit-Boy revealed how a beat initially made for Big Sean ended up being used for the 2013 collaboration between Drake and Bieber, “Right Here.” Despite the star power behind the song, it only reached number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking it as a relative underperformer compared to their other hits.

As of now, it seems like the two artists’ paths may not cross musically anytime soon—at least not through Bieber’s DMs.
