Counter-Strike 2 is rapidly closing in on CSGO’s all-time player record on Steam, signaling a potential new milestone for Valve’s tactical FPS.
Since its launch on September 27, 2023, Counter-Strike 2 has consistently topped Steam’s player charts, often surpassing one million concurrent players.
As of February 16, 2025, the game reached a peak of 1,744,015 players, just 74,000 shy of CSGO’s record of 1.818 million players. This puts Counter-Strike 2 in striking distance of breaking the record, with the numbers showing a steady rise since mid-January.
The game’s recent success is likely fueled by updates introduced in Premier Season 2, which began in late January. Changes like the map swap from Vertigo to Train and tweaks to weapons, including a price drop for the M4A4 and improved accuracy for the FAMAS, have boosted player engagement.
Additionally, the ongoing PGL Cluj-Napoca tournament, which began in February, has drawn even more attention to the game, with 16 teams competing for a $1.25 million prize pool.
With the tournament running until February 23, Counter-Strike 2’s player count could see even more growth, potentially setting a new record for the game and making history on Steam.
