As excitement continues to build around the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, gamers have been speculating about when the game will launch, especially after the announcement of Borderlands 4 set for September 2025.
Some fans believed the release window for GTA 6 could be narrowed down, as Borderlands 4 may avoid competing with another major title from the same publisher, Take-Two Interactive.
However, Mike Ybarra, former president of Blizzard Entertainment, took to Twitter to dismiss this speculation. He emphasized that Rockstar Games, the developer of GTA 6, is not concerned with the release dates of other games.
“GTA 6 is the king,” Ybarra stated, adding that other publishers would simply shift their release dates once Rockstar announces GTA 6’s launch.
Ybarra’s response further clarified that Borderlands 4 wouldn’t be able to influence GTA 6’s timing. “Rockstar is controlled by no one, including their publisher,” he tweeted, indicating that Rockstar’s immense power in the gaming industry makes it immune to concerns about competition.
While Borderlands 4 is set to release in September, it’s important to remember that Rockstar operates on its own schedule.
With GTA Online generating massive revenue for Rockstar, the company has the freedom to choose its release date without the need to avoid clashes with other titles. As Ybarra put it, Rockstar’s influence is so strong that the rest of the gaming world must adjust accordingly.
The speculation surrounding GTA 6’s release date will likely continue until Rockstar officially announces it. Even then, there’s always the possibility that Rockstar may push the release forward or delay it depending on their development process.
