Apple Plans Smaller Dynamic Island for iPhone 17 Pro Max & iPad Pro

iPhone 17 Pro Max Leaks

Apple is reportedly planning a smaller Dynamic Island for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, thanks to a new “metalens” technology.

This move could bring a fresh look to Apple’s flagship lineup, which has seen minimal design changes in recent years.

Smaller Dynamic Island for iPhone 17 Pro Max

According to a leak from Digital Chat Station, Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the only model in the lineup to feature a smaller Dynamic Island.

The key change comes from metalens technology, which allows Face ID components to shrink in size, making the cutout less noticeable. Other iPhone 17 models are expected to retain the current Dynamic Island design.

Apple’s next iPad Pro and an upcoming foldable iPad are also rumored to adopt metalens technology. However, there is no confirmed timeline for these changes.

Reports suggest that Apple’s first foldable device could arrive in 2026 or 2027, potentially featuring the same smaller Dynamic Island as the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Conflicting Reports on the iPhone 17 Pro Max Design

While the leak hints at a smaller Dynamic Island, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will not feature this change.

On the other hand, analyst Jeff Pu believes the new metalens technology will allow for smaller Face ID components.

In addition to the Dynamic Island change, the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to bring major design updates on the back, possibly helping Apple regain sales in key markets like China.

With the iPhone 17 lineup set to launch in 2025, more details should emerge in the coming months.
