WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Show Your Role in Group Chats

WhatsApp is working on a new feature for group chats, allowing users to assign a label to themselves that describes their role in the group.

How It Works

The feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, available today to beta testers.

Users can set a label for themselves in each group, and it will be visible to both current and future members of that group.

Once set, the label will stay the same, even if the user resets or reinstalls WhatsApp. It can only be changed manually.

Customization & Suggested Labels

WhatsApp suggests labels like:

  • “Jordan’s parent”
  • “Coach”
  • “Chairperson”

However, users can create custom labels, meaning the feature is fully customizable based on the group’s needs.

When Will It Roll Out?

Since this feature is in beta testing, it’s unclear when it will be available for everyone. WhatsApp features typically take weeks or months to roll out, but this one is on the way.
