WhatsApp Developing New Group Chat Labels Feature

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let group chat members add personal role labels to their profiles. The feature was discovered in the latest Android beta version 2.25.4.3.

The upcoming feature will allow users to create custom labels like “Coach” or “Chairperson” to show their role in group chats.

Users won’t be limited to preset options – they can type any role they want. These labels will only be visible in the specific group where they’re set.

This addition could be especially useful for organized groups like school communities, where parents and teachers need clear identification.

It will also help in groups that need structured moderation by making it easy to identify who handles specific responsibilities.

The labels will stay in place even if users reset or reinstall WhatsApp, ensuring roles remain clear over time.

This feature follows WhatsApp’s recent addition of an online counter for group chats, showing how many members are currently active.

The group labels feature is still under development and will be released in a future update. WhatsApp hasn’t announced when it will be available to all users.
