Universal Music Group (UMG) has filed a motion to dismiss Drake’s petition in Texas, claiming a lack of evidence to support his accusations.
The petition, part of a broader legal action Drake initiated in November 2024, accuses UMG of conspiring with Spotify and funneling payments to iHeartMedia as part of a “pay-to-play” scheme.
UMG’s 144-page filing argues that Drake’s petition is an attempt to silence free speech under the Texas Citizens Participation Act (TCPA).
The motion asserts that Drake has provided no admissible evidence to substantiate his claims and that his sources are unreliable and hearsay.
UMG also seeks to have the petition dismissed and requests that Drake cover the legal fees associated with the defense.
Drake’s New York petition has already been withdrawn, but the Texas petition remains active, with UMG pushing for its dismissal.
