YouTube Music Users Get Correct December Badges After Bug Fix

YouTube Music has fixed a bug affecting the distribution of its Top Listener badges for December 2024.

Users had been reporting that their November badges were duplicated instead of receiving new ones for December.

The Badge Feature

Introduced in October, YouTube Music’s badge system allows users to earn recognition for being a “Top Listener” of specific artists or bands.

Badges indicate the user’s percentile ranking for the month and are accessible via the app’s profile menu. Users can also share these badges as portrait graphics.

The Bug and Fix

Typically, badges for the previous month are rolled out by the second or third day of the new month.

However, for December 2024, users noticed that their November badges were reissued instead. This issue persisted for several days before YouTube Music addressed it.

As of January 14, users have reported seeing their correct Top Listener badges for December, resolving the issue.

User Reception

Despite the glitch, the badge feature has been well-received. It provides an engaging way for listeners to interact with the platform and celebrate their musical tastes.

Beyond music, badges are also available in the main YouTube app for activities like being an early paid member of a creator’s channel, completing quizzes, or receiving a creator’s heart on a comment.
