Starlink and T-Mobile Offer Satellite Texting and Free Internet to LA Wildfire Victims

In response to the devastating wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, SpaceX’s Starlink and T-Mobile have teamed up to provide essential communication services and relief to affected residents. Since Tuesday, the region has been battling multiple wildfires, fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds.

As part of their efforts, the companies have enabled satellite SMS (text messaging) through Direct-to-Cell technology, allowing T-Mobile users in the area to send text messages, call 911, and receive emergency alerts—even without cellular service.

Free Starlink Service and Terminals for LA Wildfire Victims

In addition to satellite texting, Starlink is offering free internet service to those impacted by the wildfires.

For the next month, until February 10, 2025, residents in the affected areas can receive free Starlink service, and new customers can select the “Disaster Relief” service plan during activation. Starlink is also providing free terminals to local agencies, organizations, and shelters to support recovery efforts.

For existing Starlink customers in the region, the company is offering a one-month service credit. This credit will be applied to all accounts in the affected areas, including those who have paused or canceled their service, enabling them to reactivate their service with the credit.

SpaceX’s Commitment to Disaster Relief

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, announced that Starlink would provide free terminals and services to support wildfire response and recovery. The initiative aims to help those in need of reliable communication during this challenging time.

With this collaboration, residents and organizations in the Los Angeles area now have access to vital communication tools, including satellite texting and internet, to stay connected and receive crucial information during the ongoing wildfire crisis.
