Google Introduces AI-Powered News Summaries for TV at CES 2025

Google introduced a new feature at CES 2025 that promises to change the way people watch the news.

The company’s latest TV operating system now uses its Gemini AI assistant to summarize the day’s top news.

Users can simply ask Gemini to play their “News Brief,” and it will gather news from trusted sources and YouTube video headlines, then provide a quick summary of the most important stories.

The feature is expected to be available by the end of 2025 for both new and existing Google TV devices.

It marks Google’s first major step into AI-powered news summaries, despite challenges faced by other tech companies in this area.

Some companies have been sued by media organizations for not properly licensing or crediting news content used in AI summaries.

In a demo, Google showed how Gemini could summarize breaking news, like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation and events on Capitol Hill. While the feature does not display the exact source of the news, it does link to related YouTube videos.

Google is also working on making TV a more interactive experience. New TVs will include sensors to detect when users enter the room.

In the future, users will be able to ask their TV to search for content and get AI-generated summaries for shows, movies, and YouTube videos.
