Florence Pugh recently shared her thoughts on her role in Midsommar, revealing that she felt she “abused” herself while playing the emotionally intense character, Dani.
In an interview on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Pugh explained that she would not take on a role like that again because of the emotional toll it took on her.
Pugh described how, during filming, she pushed herself to extreme emotional places to portray Dani, a grief-stricken woman who suffers a breakdown.
“I definitely felt like I abused myself in the places that I got myself to go,” she said. She also mentioned that, while the experience was difficult, she was proud of the performance and did not regret it.
She admitted that the role left her broken for a long time, and she learned to protect herself from such intense experiences in the future.
Despite the challenges, she praised Midsommar director Ari Aster, calling him a “mad genius” with a quirky sense of humor.
Pugh also shared how difficult it was to transition from Midsommar to her next film, Little Women. She felt guilt for leaving her character, Dani, in the emotional state she had created for her.
