Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Origins is facing a wave of negative reviews on Steam after a recent Windows update made the game unplayable for some users.
The problem started in November when Microsoft confirmed that the Windows 11 version 24H2 update caused issues with several Ubisoft games, including Assassin’s Creed Origins.
The update caused these games to freeze or crash, with some players seeing a black screen. In response, Microsoft blocked the update for users with these games installed to prevent further problems.
While Ubisoft fixed the issue for other games like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin’s Creed Origins is still affected. This has led to frustration from players, and negative reviews have been flooding the Steam page. The game’s user review rating dropped to “Mixed,” though its overall rating remains “Very Positive.”
Players have complained that the update made the game unplayable, and Ubisoft advised customers not to manually update to version 24H2. If the game stops working, players are instructed to use the Task Manager to close the game.
This issue comes at a tough time for Ubisoft, which is already dealing with financial struggles and a series of setbacks. The company has been in talks with Tencent for a potential buyout and has faced poor sales, studio closures, and layoffs.
Ubisoft’s shares dropped to their lowest point in a decade in September, and the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has added to the company’s challenges.
Until the issue is resolved, Ubisoft and Microsoft continue to work on fixing Assassin’s Creed Origins for affected players.
