Apple TV+ Cancels Sci-Fi Series ‘Sunny’ Despite Positive Reviews

Sunny ― Apple TV+ Show

Apple TV+ has canceled its sci-fi comedy series Sunny after just one season, leaving fans frustrated by an unresolved cliffhanger.

The show, which received a 90% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, follows Suzie as she investigates the mysterious disappearance of her husband and son.

The first season ended with a shocking twist involving betrayal, but now, viewers won’t get the chance to see what happens next.

The cancellation comes just as the show had gained momentum. The season finale revealed that Mixxy, a key character, had been working for the yakuza all along, and the fate of Masa, Suzie’s husband, remained uncertain. Despite the cliffhanger, Apple TV+ has confirmed that there will be no second season.

Sunny starred Rashida Jones and Hidetoshi Nishijima, with both receiving praise for their performances. The show’s mix of AI themes and a detective-style storyline made it stand out in a crowded sci-fi genre.

It’s particularly surprising given the growing popularity of AI-related content, such as Black Mirror and M3GAN, which makes Sunny’s cancellation even more disappointing.

While the show had a strong reception, it seems that low viewership may have led to its cancellation.

Streaming services often prioritize viewing figures, and Sunny may not have gained the attention it deserved despite its critical acclaim. Fans are left wondering if a future reboot could bring closure to the story.
