Google’s AI assistant, Gemini Live, might be coming to Chrome on desktop. Early code suggests a floating window UI that users can access through a new icon in the tab strip.

This feature, called GLIC (Gemini Live in Chrome), is under development. It could work on Windows, Linux, and Mac versions of Chrome.

The tool might include a dedicated settings menu, a status tray icon, and customizable hotkeys for easy access.

A Chrome researcher, Leopeva64, found that enabling certain experimental flags shows a placeholder icon on the tab strip. Clicking this icon triggers a floating window, likely for Gemini Live.

GLIC’s settings menu suggests features like microphone and location access, and users can manage activity and permissions.

Gemini Live has already made waves since becoming free for all users in September. It launched as a standalone app for iOS and offers integrations with popular apps like Spotify, WhatsApp, and Google Home.

If this Chrome integration rolls out, Gemini Live could become even more accessible for users across platforms. Google continues to expand Gemini Live’s reach, making it a key part of the Google ecosystem.
