James Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster, has acquired the rights to turn the indie game Pacific Drive into a TV series.

The game, created by Cassandra Dracott from Ironwood Studios, is a retropunk-style driving and survival game. Players try to escape a strange and abandoned zone, with only their car for company in a dark, eerie world.

Pacific Drive debuted in February and quickly gained attention. It was nominated for Best Debut Indie Game at the 2024 Game Awards and won Best Gameplay at the 2024 BIG Festival.

The game was also added to the suggested reading list for the Nebula Awards by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association.

James Wan, along with Michael Clear and Rob Hackett from Atomic Monster, will executive produce the TV adaptation.

Jeff Ludwig of The Menagerie Productions will also be involved. The series is not yet attached to a specific network or streaming platform.

Atomic Monster’s TV division, led by Hackett, has already launched the horror thriller series Teacup on Peacock. Upcoming projects include Copenhagen, starring Simu Liu, and Obsession, based on the novel 56 Days, for Amazon Prime Video.

In addition to Pacific Drive, Wan’s company is also working on several other TV projects, including a horror reboot of The Munsters, a series based on Robocop for Amazon, and a live-action adaptation of Gargoyles for Disney+.
