Tom Hanks is working on a new project for Apple TV after the success of Masters of the Air.
This time, he and his partner Gary Goetzman will adapt the upcoming novel Sheepdogs, written by Elliot Ackerman.
The book is set to be published in 2025, and Apple Studios has already paid nearly $1 million for the rights.
Sheepdogs tells the story of two soldiers, Skwerl and Cheese, who take on a mission to retrieve a private jet from a remote African airfield.
As the plot unfolds, things get more complicated, especially when the women in their lives get involved.
The characters include a pregnant wife, a dominatrix, and more colorful figures, such as a bomb technician and a used car dealer turned politician.
Hanks and Goetzman, through their Playtone company, are also behind Masters of the Air. Itโs unclear if Hanks will appear in Sheepdogs, as he did in Greyhound in 2020, another Apple TV project.
While Masters of the Air was well-received, Hanks has had some mixed results with other projects this year.
His cameo in Freaky Tales has not yet led to a wide release, and his film Here was a box office flop. However, with Sheepdogs, Hanks could find new success in a modern and exciting story.
Will this new project bring Hanks back to the spotlight? Only time will tell.
