Google Play Store Will Soon Warn You About Harmful Apps

Google is working on a new feature for the Play Store that may help Android users avoid bad apps.

According to Android Authority, the latest Play Store update (version 43.7.19-31) contains hidden messages suggesting Google will warn users about apps that are unpopular or poorly rated.

What Are the Warnings?

If this feature rolls out, users may see warnings like:

  • “This app is frequently uninstalled compared to similar apps.”
  • “Play has limited user data about this app.”
  • “This app has few active users compared to others on Play.”

These messages will appear on the app’s Play Store page alongside other app details. They will serve as subtle warnings, helping users decide whether to download an app.

How It Works

Google plans to analyse three key factors:

  1. Uninstall Rates – How often users delete the app compared to similar apps.
  2. User Data – Whether there is enough feedback and usage data.
  3. Active Users – The number of people using the app versus others in the same category.

Why It Matters

The feature aims to help users avoid wasting time or money on low-quality apps. It builds on Google’s efforts to protect users, like Play Protect, which scans for malware and security threats.

Will This Happen Soon?

The warnings are still in development, and it’s unclear when (or if) they will launch. For now, they exist in the code but are not visible in the app.

If Google releases this feature, it could make Android’s app store more user-friendly and encourage developers to create better apps.
