Kendrick Lamar has made history with his surprise album GNX, released on November 22, 2024.
Five tracks from the album occupy the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated December 7, tying him with Drake, Taylor Swift, and The Beatles as the only artists to achieve this feat.
The track “Squabble Up” debuted at No. 1, becoming Lamar’s third chart-topper of the year, following “Not Like Us” and “Like That.”
This cements Lamar as 2024โs leader in No. 1 hits. Additional GNX tracks also secured the Nos. 8 and 9 positions, further showcasing the albumโs impact.
GNX debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 319,000 album units sold in its first week. The albumโs success caps a year of high-profile moments for Lamar, including his widely publicized feud with Drake.
The diss track “Not Like Us,” which fueled the rivalry, earned five Grammy nominations and remains a cultural flashpoint.
Lamarโs dominance also disrupted the record-breaking potential of Shaboozeyโs “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which slips to No. 6 after tying the all-time record for 19 weeks at No. 1. Holiday classics, typically strong in December, have also been delayed on the charts due to Lamarโs overwhelming success.
With GNX, Lamar not only closes out 2024 with a bang but also solidifies his position as one of the greatest artists of the decade.
