Xiaomi appears to be preparing for its next generation of smartphones with a new Qualcomm processor. Evidence discovered in Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 code suggests the company is developing a device with an unreleased Snapdragon chipset, likely the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.
The company recently launched the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro in China, which currently use the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
While these models are currently only available in China, Xiaomi typically releases a global version of its smaller flagship model.
A screenshot shared by a tech enthusiast shows a reference to the chipset code ‘SM8850’ within Xiaomi’s operating system code.
This discovery suggests that Xiaomi is already working on the Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro, which will likely be the first devices to feature this new processor.
Currently, Xiaomi’s global flagship lineup includes the Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, and Xiaomi 14T Pro. The potential new device represents the next step in the company’s smartphone development, showcasing Xiaomi’s ongoing collaboration with Qualcomm to bring cutting-edge mobile technology to consumers.
While it’s too early to confirm specific details, the code discovery provides an exciting glimpse into Xiaomi’s future smartphone plans and the next generation of mobile processing technology.
