Perplexity Considers Launching AI-Powered Voice Device

28

Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine, is exploring the hardware market. CEO Aravind Srinivas posted on X that the company is considering a simple, under $50 device to answer questions via voice.

The project would proceed if the post garnered over 5,000 likes, which it did, prompting an excited response from Srinivas.

AI startups, like Midjourney and OpenAI, are increasingly venturing into hardware to offer new AI interactions.

However, creating successful hardware is challenging. Devices like Rabbit’s R1 and Humane’s AI Pin faced issues like delays, poor reviews, and recalls.

With significant funding, Perplexity is well-positioned to enter the hardware space, but success will depend on overcoming numerous obstacles. Only time will tell if Perplexity can deliver a standout product.
