MAX OLED Technology Redefines Display Manufacturing

Solution for production of MAX OLED displays

Applied Materials has introduced MAX OLED, a revolutionary manufacturing technology that promises brighter, longer-lasting, and more energy-efficient OLED displays.

This breakthrough eliminates the need for traditional fine metal mask (FMM) deposition, instead using a maskless process that simplifies production while enhancing performance.

MAX OLED offers up to three times brighter displays, a fivefold increase in lifespan, and 30% lower power consumption. It also achieves a resolution boost of 2.5 times, enabling up to 2,000 PPI.

The technology scales efficiently, allowing production across various sizes, from AR/VR headsets to large TVs, using larger Gen 8 substrates.

Industry leaders such as Samsung Display, Visionox, and Japan Display are early adopters, with Visionox and JDI preparing to commercialize the technology.

Samsung’s involvement highlights its potential to drive widespread adoption, leveraging its market dominance and extensive resources.

This innovation could lower costs and democratize high-performance OLEDs for mid-range devices.

Despite steep initial investments, the scalability and efficiency of MAX OLED may reshape the OLED market and accelerate its adoption across consumer electronics.
