Instagram Adds Location Sharing and Nicknames to DMs

Instagram now lets users share their live location in direct messages for up to an hour, making it easier to find each other at events and gatherings.

This feature is available in both one-on-one chats and group messages, with privacy settings ensuring it’s off by default. The live location-sharing tool is similar to Snapchat’s SnapMap, but without the bird’s-eye view of all your contacts.

Along with location sharing, Instagram is rolling out new features like customizable nicknames for friends within group chats.

These updates are currently available in select countries, though Instagram hasn’t listed specifics.
