The Google Play Store is working on a new filter that can block specific types of apps from showing up in recommendations and searches. This feature was spotted in version 43.7.19-31 of the app, but it’s not fully functional yet.
An analysis by Android Authority and AssembleDebug found that this filter might hide apps that link to external websites or apps. However, Google has not confirmed how the filter will work. A support page linked to the feature is currently empty.
Some believe this filter could improve security by limiting apps with external links. Others think it might be related to legal rulings that require Google to allow third-party app stores on the Play Store.
For now, there’s no official word on when or if Google will release this feature to all users.
In other updates, the Play Store is testing features like a “Continue Playing” section for games and a “Smart Resume” option to pause and resume downloads.
