Meta Deletes 2 Million Facebook, Instagram, & WhatsApp Accounts — Here’s Why

Meta

Meta has removed over 2 million scam accounts across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in 2024 to combat fraud and organized crime, particularly targeting pig-butchering scams.

These scams, often run from countries like Myanmar, Laos, and the UAE, trick victims into fraudulent investment schemes.

Meta’s strategy includes identifying and banning criminal organizations, monitoring scam hotspots, and collaborating with external partners and law enforcement.

New safety features, like warnings for suspicious messages and added context in WhatsApp group chats, are being rolled out to help users stay alert.

The company remains committed to protecting users by disrupting these scams and preventing illegal activity across its platforms.
