New iPhone Camera App Makes Pro-Level Video Easy

Kino Camera App

The team behind the popular Halide camera app has released Kino, a new video app for iPhone that balances professional features with ease of use.

Key Features:

  • Clean, simple interface similar to iPhone’s default camera app
  • Easy access to advanced controls like white balance and focus
  • Flexible video settings (resolution, frame rate, codec)
  • “Instant Grade” feature that shows color effects while filming
  • Built-in color presets from professional filmmakers
  • Option to import custom color effects (LUTs)
  • Choice of storage location (Photos app or Files app)

Current Limitations:

  • No 4K 120fps Dolby Vision recording
  • Brief delay when switching lenses
  • No digital zoom between fixed lens positions
  • Some stabilization issues at 60fps

The app costs $20 and is available in the App Store. While pricier than many apps, it offers features that make professional-style video recording much simpler than using the iPhone’s built-in camera app.

The developers plan more features in an upcoming “Casablanca” update.
