Valve’s New Gaming Controllers Leaked

Valve Steam Controller 2

Valve is reportedly developing two new gaming controllers: a Steam Controller 2 and a VR controller codenamed “Roy”. The news comes from Valve watcher Brad Lynch, who claims both devices are heading to mass production.

The Steam Controller 2, codenamed “Ibex”, would succeed the original Steam Controller that helped inspire the Steam Deck’s design. This follows Valve’s earlier hints about wanting to create a successor to their customizable controller.

The “Roy” controller is designed for Valve’s rumored “Deckard” VR headset. Unlike traditional VR controllers, Roy will reportedly double as a regular gamepad with a D-pad, bumpers, and ABXY buttons.

The Deckard headset is expected to compete with Meta Quest as a wireless VR option. Previous rumors suggested it might use an ARM chip, though specifications remain unconfirmed.

These developments follow Valve’s recent partnership with Hori for an officially licensed Steam controller. However, that controller isn’t considered a true successor to the original Steam Controller.

Valve typically keeps products secret until near completion. The company has not officially confirmed these leaks about the new controllers or Deckard headset.
