Apple is expanding its AI capabilities, and Google Gemini is next in line for integration with Apple Intelligence. However, users will need to wait a bit longer.
According to Mark Gurman’s newsletter, Google Gemini won’t be integrated into iOS this year. Apple is giving OpenAI, which already has ChatGPT integration in iOS 18.2, an “exclusivity window.”
The potential timeline for Gemini integration could be:
- Spring 2025 (possibly with iOS 18.4)
- Later in 2025 during the iOS 19 release cycle
For now, iPhone users who want to use Gemini can download Google’s standalone Gemini app from the App Store. This allows direct access to Google’s AI capabilities.
Apple’s software executive Craig Federighi has previously expressed interest in Gemini integration. Bloomberg had also reported that multiple AI chatbot integrations were planned, including Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude.
The current focus remains on the OpenAI ChatGPT integration, which is expected to release in the iOS 18.2 beta in December.
