New pool on the Paypal app

PayPal has reintroduced its group money collection feature in five countries: the U.S., Germany, U.K., Italy, and Spain. The feature allows users to pool money for shared expenses like trips, gifts, and other group purchases.

Key points about the new feature:

  • Users can create pools through the PayPal app or website
  • Contributors don’t need a PayPal account to add money
  • Pool creators can set title, description, target date, and goal amount
  • Pools can be shared via text, email, WhatsApp, or Messenger
  • Pool creators can track contributions and transfer funds at any time

This is a relaunch of PayPal’s “Money Pools” feature, which was originally introduced in 2017 but discontinued in November 2021. According to PayPal, the feature is returning “due to high customer demand.”

The feature differs from expense-splitting tools as it allows for collecting money before purchases rather than settling bills afterward.
