Microsoft has started a new marketing campaign called “This is an Xbox” to show that Xbox is no longer just about gaming consoles. The campaign promotes Xbox as a gaming platform that works across many devices.

Key points:

  • Xbox games can now be played on laptops, TVs, handheld PCs, and VR headsets
  • The campaign will appear on digital billboards, buses, and online
  • This strategy builds on Xbox Cloud Gaming, which launched six years ago
  • Microsoft calls this initiative “Xbox Everywhere” internally

Craig McNary, senior director of Xbox marketing, says the campaign shows how Xbox has evolved into a platform that works across multiple devices.

The company is moving toward a “no console required” approach, making Xbox games available on different platforms including Samsung TVs and Amazon Fire TV sticks.

This campaign represents Microsoft’s continued effort to reach gamers beyond traditional Xbox consoles, possibly including PlayStation and Nintendo Switch in the future.
