The wait is over for DC fans, as Warner Bros. has officially announced the release date and details for the highly anticipated Superman reboot, titled “Superman: Legacy”. Directed by James Gunn, who is also serving as co-CEO of the newly formed DC Studios, the film is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025 as the first installment in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU).
“Superman: Legacy” will follow the iconic hero as he reconciles his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas. The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor. Gunn has confirmed the story will take inspiration from the acclaimed comic book series “All-Star Superman” by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.
Production began in February 2024, primarily at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with additional filming locations in Ohio. The movie is the first in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, setting the stage for a new interconnected universe of films and TV series under Gunn and producer Peter Safran’s leadership.
“I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much,” Gunn said in an emotional wrap post on social media. “The goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward.”
With a talented cast, acclaimed director, and a fresh take on the beloved character, “Superman: Legacy” is poised to reinvigorate the franchise and kick off an exciting new era for the DCU. Fans will have to wait until July 2025 to see the Man of Steel’s big-screen return, but the hype is already building for Gunn’s vision.
