Netflix began filming Season 2 of 3 Body Problem on July 8, 2025, in Budapest, Hungary. Season 3 is being filmed at the same time. The move from the UK to Hungary is due to a 30% tax rebate.
The combined budget for both seasons is $267 million, with about $24 million per episode. Filming is scheduled to end by August 2, 2027, with a break between seasons. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos expects Season 2 to release in late 2026, though post-production could push it to early 2027.
Season 2 adapts The Dark Forest, the second book in Liu Cixin’s trilogy. The story follows Earth’s preparation for an alien invasion in 400 years. A secret group, the Wallfacer program, creates hidden plans to defend against alien surveillance. Jovan Adepo returns as Saul Durand, a key Wallfacer.
New cast members include Claudia Doumit, Ellie de Lange, Alfie Allen, David Yip, and Jordan Sunshine. Returning cast includes Jovan Adepo, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Benedict Wong, Liam Cunningham, and others.
Directors Miguel Sapochnik and Jeremy Podeswa join showrunners David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo. Catherine Goldschmidt returns as cinematographer.
Season 1 was released in March 2024. Fans are eager but concerned about the long gap. Back-to-back filming may reduce the wait for Season 3.
Season 1 holds a 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes and received several Emmy nominations.
