Xiaomi Reportedly Cancels MIX FOLD 5 Plans Amid Weak Sales and Strategic Shift

Xiaomi may have cancelled development of its upcoming foldable phone, the MIX FOLD 5, following poor sales of the previous MIX FOLD 4. The decision signals a possible shift in the company’s foldable device strategy.

Development of the MIX FOLD 5, internally called “nirvana” (model 25054PXCEC), began in October 2024 with strong momentum. However, all updates suddenly stopped in March 2025. The phone was widely expected to launch alongside the recently released MIX FLIP 2, as part of Xiaomi’s usual dual-launch strategy.

The lack of any mention of the MIX FOLD 5 during the MIX FLIP 2’s launch has raised concerns about internal challenges or a change in company priorities.

High-End Specs Now Shelved

The MIX FOLD 5 was set to feature major camera upgrades, including:

  • 50MP ultra-wide camera (Samsung S5KJN1)
  • 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x zoom (Samsung S5KJN5)
  • 50MP main sensor (Omnivision Light Hunter OVX8000)
  • 50MP secondary telephoto with 4x zoom (Samsung S5KJN5)
  • Dual 32MP front cameras (Omnivision OV32B40)

These specifications marked a significant leap over the MIX FOLD 4 and reflected Xiaomi’s ambitions in the premium foldable space. With the MIX FOLD 5 no longer moving forward, those upgrades will not reach consumers.

Uncertain Future for Xiaomi Foldables

The apparent cancellation raises questions about the future of Xiaomi’s foldable product line. It is not clear whether this is a temporary pause for strategic review or a sign that the company may pull back from the foldable market entirely. Factors such as global competition, shifting demand, and internal resource allocation will likely influence Xiaomi’s next steps.
