Xbox Game Pass is tapping into nostalgia by launching Retro Classics, a new feature offering access to 50+ vintage games, thanks to a partnership between Xbox and Antstream Arcade.
The collection includes iconic titles like Commando, Grand Prix, Kaboom!, Mech Warrior 2: 31st Century Combat, and Pitfall!
Described as a commitment to game preservation and backwards compatibility, these games are playable on Xbox consoles, PCs, supported smart TVs (LG and Samsung), Amazon Fire TV devices, and Meta Quest headsets—all via cloud gaming.
Access is available through a Game Pass membership by downloading Retro Classics.
What makes Retro Classics even more appealing is its modern features for old-school titles. Players can save and reload progress, a first for many of these classics.
Plus, they can compete in global challenges, test their skills against friends, and unlock unique achievements.
Microsoft also teased that this is just the beginning. Over time, the catalog is expected to grow to include 100+ titles from Activision and Blizzard, thanks to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
While Nintendo has long been known for retro game support, Xbox is clearly making its own mark in game preservation, finally putting its Activision vault to use for fans of gaming history.
