Streameast, the world’s largest illegal sports streaming platform, has been shut down following a coordinated operation by Egyptian authorities and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a coalition of major media companies.

The operation culminated in a raid on August 24 in El-Sheikh Zayed, Egypt, resulting in the arrest of two men suspected of operating the site. Authorities seized laptops, smartphones, cash, and credit cards during the raid.

Investigators also uncovered a shell company linked to the operation, allegedly used to launder over $6 million in advertising revenue. Additionally, real estate purchases and cryptocurrency investments tied to illicit funds were discovered.

Streameast had over 80 associated domains and attracted more than 1.6 billion visits in the past year. It provided unauthorized access to major sporting events, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, European football leagues, boxing, and mixed martial arts. The site was particularly popular in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Philippines, and Germany.

ACE, which includes companies like Amazon, Netflix, and Paramount+, hailed the takedown as a significant victory in the fight against digital piracy. Charles Rivkin, chairman of ACE and CEO of the Motion Picture Association, stated, “With this landmark action, we have put more points on the board for sports leagues, entertainment companies, and fans worldwide.”

Despite the shutdown, experts warn that piracy continues to be a challenge. Mirror sites and alternative platforms have already emerged, continuing to offer unauthorized streams. The decentralized nature of such operations makes enforcement efforts ongoing and complex.
