When is Apple Intelligence Coming to EU?

Apple Intelligence

Apple’s highly anticipated AI features, collectively known as Apple Intelligence, are set to debut globally later this year with iOS 18, iPadOS 19, and macOS Sequoia. However, users in the European Union will have to wait until 2025 for these advanced capabilities.

The delay affects Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring, and enhanced SharePlay Screen Sharing. Apple cites regulatory uncertainties related to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) as the reason for the postponement.

The DMA aims to ensure fair competition among tech giants. Apple expressed concerns that complying with the Act’s interoperability requirements could compromise user privacy and data security. The company is actively working with EU authorities to find a solution that meets regulatory demands without sacrificing product integrity.

Features like generative AI tools, improved Siri capabilities, and advanced image editing are part of the Apple Intelligence suite. While beta testing is expected to begin this summer for most users worldwide, European customers will need to wait an additional year for access.

Apple emphasized its commitment to collaborating with the European Commission and prioritizing data security, particularly through its Private Cloud Compute technology. The company aims to balance regulatory compliance with maintaining the high standards of privacy and security its users expect.
