The world of Cyberpunk 2077 is expanding once again. A new anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, has officially been announced, with fans getting their first glimpse during a special panel at Anime Expo 2025. Studio Trigger released a teaser trailer, hinting at a fresh story full of action, mystery, and dark emotion.
Unlike the first season, which told the complete and tragic story of David Martinez, the upcoming series will feature a brand-new cast and storyline. Writer Bartosz Sztybor confirmed that David will not return, saying definitively, “David is dead.” Instead, the sequel will dive into new corners of the Cyberpunk universe with a standalone, 10-episode tale.
Described as a story of “redemption and revenge,” the teaser asks a haunting question: “When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?” No release date has been set yet.
In addition to the sequel, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners universe is expanding in other ways. Lucy, a major character from season one, will be added as a DLC fighter in Guilty Gear Strive. Meanwhile, Rebecca — a fan-favorite — will get a special prequel episode, exploring more of her backstory.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners originally debuted in 2022 on Netflix and quickly gained praise for its emotional storytelling and bold animation style. The sequel hopes to build on that success while offering something entirely new.
