Not every participant on Virgin Island has lost their virginity—and 23-year-old Emma says that’s completely okay.
The Channel 4 reality series, which ended on May 27, followed 12 adult virgins as they explored sex, intimacy, and personal growth. While some found confidence and even lost their virginity after the retreat, others—like Emma—say they’re still waiting for the right moment.
Emma, who quickly became a fan favorite for her openness and emotional honesty, shared in The Sun that she remains a virgin despite the experience.
“I feel like I would need to have a connection with someone to have good intimacy,” she said, explaining why she’s taking her time. “It’s awkward to do all that when you’re a virgin and someone expects you to act like a pornstar.”
During the show, Emma spoke openly about her struggles with bullying, body image, and anxiety, revealing that her past made intimacy feel overwhelming. Though she made emotional progress and even went on a date with fellow participant Viraj, she says she’s “not in the right mindset for a relationship” right now.
Emma also addressed the pressure and stereotypes women face, saying people often assume attractive women must be sexually experienced.
“It’s funny that people have a perception of women who are good looking and expect us to all be a certain way,” she said, recalling times she was called names in public despite being a virgin.
Still, she shared that she has “explored intimacy” since the show and is more confident now.
Fellow contestant Taylor also told Cosmopolitan that she remains a virgin, but no longer fears sex. “I still need a connection,” she said. “But now I know I can do it when the time is right.”
For both women, Virgin Island wasn’t about losing their virginity—it was about finding comfort in their own skin and letting go of shame.
