Ben Harris, a contestant on Channel 4’s reality show Virgin Island, has shared his thoughts after the series finale aired on May 27.
The show followed 12 people aged 22 to 30 who had never had sex before. They stayed at a luxury retreat in Croatia and worked with experts to overcome their barriers to intimacy.
Only one contestant, Dave, lost his virginity on the show with the help of his surrogate partner, Kat Slade. Dave said he felt proud and relieved to no longer be a virgin, while Kat called the moment important.
Ben, who did not lose his virginity during the show, took to social media to thank fans and called the experience “amazing.” Many viewers named him their favourite contestant.
In an article for The Times, Ben explained that although he is still a virgin, the show was a success for him personally. He left Croatia feeling confident and positive about his self-image.
However, Ben’s progress slowed after he lost his job as a parliamentary researcher following a general election in July 2024. He said his job had given him security and pride, which helped him feel comfortable enough to take part in the show. Losing it was “the worst moment” of his life.
Despite this setback, Ben described his time on Virgin Island as “an unqualified success” in a difficult year. He hopes his improved mindset will help him in future relationships.
All episodes of Virgin Island are available to stream now on Channel 4.
