Valve is expanding SteamOS beyond the Steam Deck, confirming that users will be able to install the operating system on other handheld devices by April 2025.

Pierre-Loup Griffais, a lead designer of SteamOS, revealed that a beta version will be available after March, enabling users to test it on compatible devices.

The first third-party SteamOS handheld, Lenovo’s Legion Go, will ship in May, but Valve is also supporting other devices.

While the company hasn’t specified which ones, previous work with the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go indicates that these models could be compatible.

Valve is embracing community-driven projects like Bazzite, a fork of SteamOS that works on handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally, but cautions that companies must partner with Valve to officially preload SteamOS on their devices.

This move reflects Valve’s goal to create a unified SteamOS platform, ensuring consistent software updates and hardware compatibility across devices.

While Valve has not confirmed partnerships with other companies, it remains open to collaboration for future SteamOS-powered devices.
