Unclaimed $670,000 Lottery Ticket Set to Expire After 7 Years

A lottery winner in Australia has until 11 August to claim a $670,000 prize, or the money will be lost forever.

The winning ticket was bought at Golden Lucky News in Helensvale, Queensland, on 11 August 2018. Queensland law gives winners seven years to claim their winnings, making this the final deadline.

The ticket is worth $671,513.12 and was one of six winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto Draw 3867. It is now Australia’s oldest unclaimed lottery prize.

Mystery Winner Remains Unknown

Officials cannot contact the winner because the ticket was not registered to a customer account. The Lott spokeswoman Anna Hobdell believes the winner has no idea they won.

“It’s highly likely our mystery winner has been going about the past seven years as normal with no idea they’ve been sitting on a winning ticket worth $670,000,” she said.

The shop’s current owner, Melanie Zhi, took over the business in 2024. She said the winner could be anyone, as the store serves both local customers and visitors from other states, particularly New South Wales.

“It’s hard to believe the division one winner still hasn’t come forward after all these years,” Zhi said.

Search for Old Tickets

Lottery officials are asking people in the area to check old tickets, especially those kept in unusual places. Past winners have found tickets stored in refrigerators and car compartments.

The winning numbers were 1, 23, 8, 15, 44, 20, with supplementary numbers 11 and 18.

Anyone who thinks they have the winning ticket should call The Lott on 131 868 immediately. If no one claims the prize by the deadline, the money will go to the Queensland government.
