President Donald Trump has launched a new international body called the “Board of Peace,” saying it will work with the United Nations to help end global conflicts. He announced the initiative on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, alongside a group of foreign leaders.
Speaking at the event, Mr Trump said the board would cooperate with the UN, despite previously suggesting it could replace the global body. He said there was “tremendous potential” in the United Nations and claimed that combining its work with the Board of Peace could produce unique results.
Around 20 leaders appeared on stage during the launch, including Argentina’s President Javier Milei, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto. No leaders from major European allies were present. After the speech, those on stage signed the board’s founding charter, though the final document has not been released publicly.
Mr Trump said the board was first focused on ending the war in Gaza but could later expand its role to other conflicts. He claimed that only “little fires” remained in Gaza and said Iran wanted to speak with him. He also repeated his claim that he had helped end multiple wars, while criticising the previous administration.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the board’s immediate priority would be Gaza. He said its main task was to ensure that any peace agreement there becomes lasting, adding that success could serve as a model for resolving other conflicts.
Many details about the Board of Peace remain unclear, including its final membership and how it will operate. Leaders from countries such as Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan were present at the launch, but there is no confirmed list of members.
The board’s logo has drawn attention for its resemblance to the UN emblem. Both feature a globe surrounded by olive branches, though the Board of Peace logo centres on the United States and uses gold colouring instead of the UN’s blue and white.
