President Donald Trump gave a middle finger to a heckler during a visit to a Ford plant in Detroit on Tuesday, according to a video first published by TMZ.
The video appears to show Trump pointing at the heckler and mouthing an insult after the person seemingly called him a “pedophile protector.” The remark appears tied to criticism over the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
The White House confirmed the video is authentic. In a statement, officials called the heckler a “lunatic” and said Trump’s response was “appropriate and unambiguous.”
Trump was in Detroit to deliver a speech focused on the economy and interest rates. He praised his administration’s record and again urged the Federal Reserve to cut rates.
The appearance came one day after the Justice Department announced an investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, whom Trump has repeatedly criticized.
Trump has dismissed renewed attention on the Epstein files as a political distraction. He has denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein and has not been accused of crimes connected to the case.
The administration previously pledged to release all unclassified Epstein files by December 19, 2025, but only a small portion has been made public so far.
The incident adds to a series of tense public moments for Trump as scrutiny grows over his conduct, rhetoric, and response to high-profile controversies.
