Trump Cancels Major Wind Farm Project in Idaho Over Legal Concerns

President Donald Trump has canceled the Lava Ridge Wind Project in southern Idaho, a large-scale renewable energy plan approved by the Biden administration in December 2024.

The project aimed to build up to 231 wind turbines across more than 57,000 acres of public land, generating around 1,000 megawatts of electricity. However, the Trump administration reversed the approval, calling the project legally flawed and not in the public interest.

The cancellation comes after strong opposition from Idaho residents, local leaders, and lawmakers. Governor Brad Little and Senator Jim Risch were among those who raised concerns about the project’s impact on agriculture, wildlife, and the nearby Minidoka National Historic Site.

The Department of the Interior, now led by Secretary Doug Burgum, will reassess the project’s environmental and cultural impact.

The Idaho Conservation League expressed disappointment, saying the state needs renewable energy projects to meet future energy demands. The project’s developer, Magic Valley Energy, has not released a statement yet.
