Looking for something to watch this weekend? Here’s a quick guide to the best new releases in theaters, to rent, or to stream.
In Theaters:
Solo Mio – Kevin James stars in this sweet rom-com about a groom left at the altar who decides to go on his honeymoon alone in Italy. He makes quirky friends, meets a gorgeous barista, and finds love in unexpected ways. Fun, light, and filmed beautifully in Rome.
Dracula – Luc Besson’s new take on the classic vampire story is over-the-top and stylish, with Caleb Landry Jones and Christoph Waltz. Not as good as Coppola’s version, but fun if you like gothic romance and weird CGI gargoyles.
The Moment – Pop-star Charli XCX parodies her club-life persona in this mockumentary. Niche, funny, and includes a cameo from Kylie Jenner.
Whistle – A teen horror movie with clever kills and creepy surprises. Fans of Final Destination and Nightmare on Elm Street will enjoy it.
To Rent or Buy:
The Housemaid – Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried star in this twisty domestic thriller. Secrets, lies, and lots of drama make this psychological horror-thriller addictive. Available on Apple TV, Prime Video, and other VOD platforms.
The Plague – A tense coming-of-age drama about bullying at a water polo camp. Disturbing, intense, but highly praised for acting and storytelling. Available to rent or buy.
Hamnet – A dramatization of Shakespeare’s grief after losing his son. Beautiful but slow and strange.
We Bury the Dead – Daisy Ridley hunts the undead while dealing with grief and loss. A mix of zombie horror and emotional drama.
On Streaming Services:
Splitsville – Hilarious indie comedy about divorce, jealousy, and open marriages. Stars Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona. Streaming on Hulu.
The Knife – A suspenseful thriller about a Black family dealing with a stranger in their home. Tense, gripping, and thought-provoking. Streaming on Starz.
Ella McCay – James L. Brooks’ latest film is messy but weirdly fascinating. Streaming on Hulu.
Whether you’re after laughs, scares, or drama, this weekend has something for everyone.
