Tom Holland has revealed that the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day will embrace “old school filmmaking” by shooting in real locations, a change from the previous movie which was mostly filmed on soundstages due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Speaking to “Flip Your Wig” at the Bero Padel Classic tournament, Holland said the new movie will begin filming in Glasgow, Scotland, where the city’s streets will serve as the backdrop for a large action sequence.

“We’re really gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow,” he explained. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID.”

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” this will be a new creative direction compared to Holland’s earlier Spider-Man films, which were directed by Jon Watts.

Holland described the experience as a “breath of fresh air” and compared it to filming “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2017. He said, “I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

At Cinema-Con earlier this year, Holland also teased that “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will serve as a “fresh start” for the character following the cliffhanger ending of “No Way Home.” He hinted that the story will explore Peter Parker’s new life after sacrificing his secret identity.

While plot details remain under wraps, some casting news has been confirmed. Jon Bernthal will return as the Punisher, and Sadie Sink will make her Marvel debut in an undisclosed role. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned, respectively.

The previous Spider-Man films starring Holland have been major box office hits, with “Homecoming” earning $880 million, “Far From Home” making $1.13 billion, and “No Way Home” grossing $1.9 billion worldwide.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026, by Disney and Marvel Studios.
