Actor Timothée Chalamet and director James Mangold are teaming up again for a new film project called High Side. The two recently worked together on A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic that earned eight Oscar nominations.
High Side is based on an unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira. The film will be produced by Chernin Entertainment, and Sugar23, which represents Oliveira, is sharing the pitch with studios and publishers.
The story follows Billy, a former MotoGP racer who left the sport after a terrible crash. Now caring for his addict father and working at the family garage, Billy is pulled back into a dangerous world by his estranged brother, Cole. Cole, who is on the run from the FBI, convinces Billy to help rob banks using their superbike skills.
The crew they form includes a woman who becomes Billy’s love interest. They start robbing small banks across desert towns, using speed and precision. But things get complicated when an FBI agent named Lennox, who has a history with Cole, begins closing in. The story builds to a high-speed final heist during a major motorcycle parade, packed with action and emotion.
Chalamet is currently filming the final scenes of Dune and also stars in Marty Supreme, a table tennis drama directed by Josh Safdie, set to release this December through A24.
