Thunderbolts has finally revealed who bought Avengers Tower — and just how jaw-dropping the price tag really was.
In the film, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine casually confirms she purchased the iconic skyscraper, now renamed the Watchtower*, for her secret government operation. But this wasn’t just any office real estate deal — this was a billion-dollar buy, one that rivals or even surpasses the box office of most Marvel movies.
The fictional tower, once known as Stark Tower and later Avengers Tower, was originally introduced in The Avengers (2012) and last seen sold off in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).
According to New York City real estate expert Michael T. Cohen, a building of this caliber, located at the real-world equivalent of 200 Park Avenue South (the MetLife Building), could easily be worth over $1 billion — a number based on square footage, prime Manhattan location, and luxury amenities.
To put that in perspective, that price tag is higher than the total box office earnings of many Marvel Studios films, including Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, and even Captain Marvel. Only blockbuster heavyweights like Avengers: Endgame ($2.79B) and Infinity War ($2B) have earned more.
In Thunderbolts, the tower is still under renovation as the headquarters for the Sentry Program. The building — equipped with high-tech labs, an Iron Man landing pad, and Arc Reactor-powered infrastructure — is 70% complete when Bob Reynolds (Lewis Pullman) is introduced as The Sentry.
So, while most heroes are saving the world, Valentina just spent a billion dollars to control it from one of the most iconic towers in the MCU.
