Marvel’s 2025 movies, Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World, have earned much less at the box office than Deadpool & Wolverine. Together, these two films have made about 42% less than Deadpool & Wolverine’s $1.3 billion global total.
Captain America: Brave New World has grossed around $415 million worldwide, while Thunderbolts has earned approximately $357 million so far. Although Thunderbolts is still showing in theaters, their combined total is far below the success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
One key reason for this difference is the popularity of the main characters. Deadpool and Wolverine are well-known favorites making their first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In contrast, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, is a less familiar lead. This likely limits the films’ box office appeal.
The lower earnings from these movies may signal a change in the MCU’s future. Smaller characters and teams might not draw the same large audiences as the biggest stars.
The upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps will test whether Marvel can still deliver a major hit with lesser-known heroes. Fans and analysts are watching closely to see if it can reverse the trend.
