The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to bring Star Wars back to theaters in 2026, and the cast includes three actors with strong ties to Marvel projects.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the film will be the first theatrical Star Wars release since 2019. It is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 22, 2026, with production already complete.
Leading the movie is Pedro Pascal, returning as Din Djarin. Pascal is also a major Marvel star, having debuted as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps in 2025. His role now places him at the center of both the Star Wars and Marvel franchises.
The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver, who plays Colonel Ward, a senior officer in the New Republic’s defense forces. In the Marvel world, Weaver is best known for her role as Alexandra Reid in The Defenders, where she led the Hand as the series’ primary villain.
Completing the Marvel trio is Steve Blum, who will reprise his role as Zeb Orrelios. While Zeb comes from Star Wars Rebels, Blum’s Marvel history is extensive, most notably as the long‑time voice of Wolverine across animated series and games.
Blum has also voiced major Marvel villains such as Green Goblin and Red Skull, making him a central figure in Marvel’s animated legacy. His return adds depth to the film’s expanding ensemble.
Lucasfilm’s casting choices highlight a growing trend of shared talent between Marvel and Star Wars, two franchises now housed under Disney.
With a mix of familiar characters and major franchise stars, The Mandalorian & Grogu is shaping up to be one of the most crossover‑heavy Star Wars films to date.
As release day approaches, the film is expected to bridge the gap between Disney+ storytelling and blockbuster cinema, placing Marvel‑tested actors at the heart of Star Wars’ theatrical return.
